Working to Promote an 'Appetite for Life'
In 2007 The Welsh Assembly Government published ‘Appetite for Life’, an action plan focused on improving the nutritional standards of food and drink provided in schools in Wales.
Dietitian Alys Roberts, has been appointed as project lead, and will be working closely with the school meals service, pupils, teachers and parents over the next 2 years. A range of activities and initiatives aimed at increasing the uptake of school meals and healthy options across a number of primary and secondary schools in Flintshire will be implemented and evaluated to find out what really works.
The project is based on the understanding that it is important to ensure that the whole school pomotes positive food and nutrition messages to children and young people, and the project lead will be working within a partnership including Flintshire County Council Catering Services, the Healthy Schools Scheme and the Good Health Good Care team.
The project will be actively promoting school meals throughout the Flintshire county, so keep a look out for up and coming events and other project activities.
